  • Calgary technology company takes advantage of worker safety initiatives: Blackline GPS device being used in Canada, U.S. and United Kingdom (Calgary Herald, December 12, 2012). A Calgary technology company that develops and manufactures mobile lone worker safety monitoring devices has secured its first client in the United Kingdom and expects to see the adaptation of its product in more countries in the future. Blackline GPS has seen sales in its real-time devices, branded Loner, increase five-fold in the last two years, said Cody Slater, the company’s chief executive.

  • Edmonton Airport’s state-of-the-art cargo facility a hit with carriers (Edmonton Journal, December 6, 2012). To ensure its relevancy as a freight destination, Edmonton International Airport needed an overhaul of its cargo headquarters and the improved facility has already received rave reviews from industry members.

  • New ownership for Cooking Lake Airport (Edmonton Journal, November 26, 2012). Cooking Lake Airport has new owners. The facility, located 20 kilometres east of Edmonton, has been sold by the Edmonton Regional Airports Authority to the Cooking Lake Airport Condominium Association.

  • Aerospace Industries Association of Canada welcomes Aerospace Review findings (Aerospace Industries Association of Canada, November 29, 2012). Strong recommendations for industry and government contained in an independently conducted review of Canada's aerospace industry and factors influencing its future competitiveness have garnered support from the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada.

  • Aurora Jet Partners named as Embraer Executive Jets sales and service centre (Canadian Skies, October 30, 2012). Embraer Executive Jets has announced that Aurora Jet Partners of Edmonton, Alta., is its newest Authorized Sales Representative (ASR) and Authorized Service Centre (ASC). Aurora will be Canada’s exclusive sales centre for Embraer’s seven-aircraft line of business jets, including the Phenom 100, 300 and the Legacy line.

  • Fort McMurray Airport Is The Largest Cross Laminated Timber Building In North America (TreeHugger, October 4, 2012). The Office of McFarlane + Biggar Architects and Designers have used CLT in the new airport at the oil sands boomtown of Fort McMurray, Alberta. It's a big airport (170,000 square feet) for such a small town, as a lot of the workers fly home to the Maritimes at the end of their shifts.

  • WestJet Encore headquarters announced (WestJet, October 31, 2012). WestJet today announced that Calgary will be home to WestJet Encore's headquarters. The decision was made after a thorough review of various airports and a variety of factors. With consideration to the operational needs of WestJet Encore during its initial launch phase and as it grows to full maturity, Calgary was determined to be the best fit for the airline and its people.

  • NRC flies the world’s first civil jet powered by 100 percent biofuel (National Research Council of Canada, October 29, 2012). The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) achieved a major milestone for the aviation industry today as it flew the first civil jet powered by 100 percent unblended biofuel. This historic flight symbolizes a significant step not only for the aerospace industry, but also towards advancing sustainable sources of renewable energy.

  • FLYHT Signs New AFIRS 228 Contract in Nigeria (FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd., October 23, 2012). FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd. reported today that it has signed a contract with a Nigerian airline for the Automated Information Reporting System 228.

  • WestJet supports the Government of Canada's introduction of Cape Town Convention legislation (WestJet, October 18, 2012). WestJet today announced that it welcomes the parliamentary introduction of Bill C-45, which allows for the implementation of the Cape Town Convention. 

  • The AlbertaSat-1 Team won the Best Environmental Mission award from the International Academy of Astronautics in Japan (CSDC, October 17, 2012). The Space Mission Idea Contest (MIC) is an international competition hosted by the Japan University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC), to which teams submit ideas for a small satellite mission.

  • WestJet again named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers (WestJet, October 12, 2012). WestJet today announced that for the second year in a row, it is listed among Canada's Top 100 Employers in Mediacorp's annual study of the best workplaces in Canada. And once again, WestJet is the only airline to place in the top 100.

  • WestJet Encore! WestJet announces name of its new regional airline (WestJet, October 11, 2012). Following a vote by WestJetters, WestJet today announced that the name of its new regional airline will be WestJet Encore. The regional airline will launch in the second half of 2013, using Bombardier Q400 aircraft to serve smaller Canadian communities.

  • Satellite best thing since sliced bread for Backs (St. Albert Leader, October 3, 2012). Backs, a St. Albert native, is part of a team of students at the University of Alberta working on AlbertaSat-1, a satellite measuring 10 centimetres by 10 centimetres by 30 centimetres that they hope to one day launch into space.

  • WestJet and WestJet Vacations named top brands in national study (WestJet, October 1, 2012). WestJet today announced that both WestJet and WestJet Vacations have received the highest brand equity scores among airline and vacation brands respectively in the 2012 Harris/Decima EquiTrend® Study.

  • Calgary's AirSprint buys nine Citation BizAv jets (Cessna, October 1, 2012). Cessna Aircraft Company in conjunction with Innotech-Execaire today announced an agreement with AirSprint Private Aviation, based in Calgary, Alberta, for a minimum of nine Citation CJ2+ aircraft. At a current retail price of $6.695 million per unit, this agreement represents a total retail value of approximately $60.255 million.

  • It’s Official – L-3 Announces Agreement with Airbus For FLYHT Technology (FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd., September 24, 2012). In a news release issued today, L-3 Aviation Recorders announced that it has signed an agreement with Airbus to “certify and provide” FLYHT’s real-time data communications and SATCOM solution technology, for the installation on the Airbus A320 family of aircraft.

  • Further Strengthening the Canada-United Kingdom Partnership (Foreign Affairs and International Trade Office, September 24, 2012). Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and William Hague, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, met today in Ottawa to renew and refresh the Canada-U.K. Joint Declaration agreed to by Prime Ministers Stephen Harper and David Cameron in September 2011.

  • Cubic Concludes Public Transit Security Pilot in Edmonton (Cubic Corporation, September 13, 2012). U.S. and Canadian companies developed and tested unique new technology designed to provide the quick and effective detection process needed in busy public transit settings

  • Government of Canada Issues Call for Proposals for Research and Development into Public Safety and Security Priorities (Defence Research and Development Canada, September 5, 2012). Today, the Government of Canada announced that the new Canadian Safety and Security Program (CSSP) has issued the first call for proposals to request submissions for innovative science and technology (S&T) project proposals.

  • FLYHT Receives Key European Certification; NetJets Europe Hawker Fleet Can Now "Go Live" (FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd., September 4, 2012). FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd. reported today that it has received an activation Supplemental Type Certificate for its Automated Flight Information Reporting System 228 on Hawker Beechcraft 750/800XP/850XP/900XP series aircraft from the European Aviation Safety Agency.

  • Canada's Aerospace Products Industry: Canadian Industrial Profile (Conference Board of Canada, Summer 2012). Strong demand among high-growth economies and a sustained recovery in the U.S. will drive global demand for aerospace products in the coming years.

  • WestJet Vacations rated #1 in customer (WestJet, August 22, 2012). WestJet Vacations today announced the results of a study showing it has the highest customer satisfaction and loyalty among the six most widely used tour operators in Canada.

  • WestJet Order for Up to 45 Bombardier Q400 NextGen Aircraft Goes Firm (Bombardier, August 1, 2012). Bombardier Aerospace announced today that the conditional order placed by WestJet, an Alberta partnership on June 28, 2012, has been converted to a firm purchase agreegment for up to 45 Q400 NextGen Airliners.

  • WestJet Places Conditional Order for Up to 45 Bombardier Q400 NextGen Aircraft (Bombardier, June 28, 2012). Bombardier Aerospace announced today that WestJet, an Alberta partnership, has signed a conditional order for 20 Q400 NextGen turboprops following the letter of intent to purchase the aircraft that was announced WestJet on May 1, 2012.

  • WestJet and China Eastern Airlines launch code-share partnership (WestJet, June 21, 2012). WestJet today announced it has entered into a code-share agreement with China Eastern Airlines, one of the largest airlines in mainland China. Tickets are available today for flights starting on July 1, 2012.

  • MDA to help train British Forces in use of UAS information in Suffield Alberta (MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., June 5, 2012). MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has signed a contract to provide training support to the British Army. The training support will include acquiring video using small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

  • WestJet and Korean Air launch code-share agreement (WestJet, May 14, 2012). WestJet announced today it has launched a code-sharing arrangement with Korean Air, the largest airline in South Korea. Tickets are available for sale as of today for flights beginning May 31, 2012.

  • AeroMechanical Services Name Change to Flyht Aerospace Solutions Ltd. (Flyht Aerospace Solutions Ltd., May 10, 2012). AeroMechanical Services Ltd. (TSX-V: AMA) shareholders approved a Company name change to FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd. at the Annual General Meeting held on May 9, 2012 in Calgary, AB.

  • Evans Expands European ATC Operations (Evans Consoles). Evans Consoles, headquartered in Calgary, is expanding its European presence by appointing 20 year ATC veteran Glyn Arthur as Director ATC, Europe.

  • WestJet launches westjetcargo.com (WestJet, April 25, 2012). WestJet this week launched a new stand-alone website, westjetcargo.com, allowing guests to better utilize the airline's cargo shipping services.

  • AeroMechanical Services Provides Safety Management System to Nigeria(AeroMechanical Services Ltd., April 20, 2012). AeroMechanical Services Ltd. has signed a contract with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to provide a Safety Management System Dashboard.

  • AeroMechanical Services' AFIRS to Take Flight with NetJets Europe (AeroMechnical Services Ltd., March 27, 2012). AeroMechanical Services Ltd. has signed a contract with the largest business jet operator in Europe, NetJets Europe. AMA will provide the Automated Flight Information Reporting System and services for 30 Hawker Beechcraft 750/800XP aircraft.

  • GSTS Signs Trial Vessel Monitoring and Management Agreement (GSTS, March 7, 2012). Global Spatial Technology Solutions Inc. (GSTS), a provider of Intelligent Maritime Solutions, has signed a trial agreement with Resolute Forest Products to provide a maritime vessel management capability that will enhance the overall marine logistics efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of vessels.

  • Teledyne Acquires VariSystems Inc. (Teledyne Technologies Inc., Feb. 27, 2012). Teledyne Technologies Incorporated announced today that it has acquired VariSystems Inc. VariSystems, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, is a leading supplier of custom harsh environment interconnects.

  • Link Suspensions of Canada, LP acquires assets of Raydan Manufacturing Inc.(Link Suspensions of Canada, Feb. 13, 2012) The Raydan acquisition further expands Link's participation in the Heavy and Medium Duty Truck and Trailer markets, along with other Commercial and Vocational vehicles as a component supplier to OEM's and the Aftermarket.

  • WestJet announces service to LaGuardia (WestJet, January 27, 2012). WestJet today unveiled details of its scheduled service to New York's LaGuardia airport - 7 non-stop flights each business day between Toronto and New York City starting June 4, 2012.  

  • WestJet to launch short haul regional airline? (The Canadian Press, January 16, 2012). WestJet is considering launching a new short-haul regional airline in a move that would extend service to smaller communities and increase traffic to its current network.
