Meet the experts series

The Government of Alberta launched the Meet the Experts series in February 2012. It serves as a platform for knowledge transfer, information sharing and communication between industry and government. Industry experts are invited to speak to government on the challenges and opportunities faced by Alberta industries, share ideas and concerns, and participate in a dialogue between industry representatives and government colleagues. 

This series of events will be organized a few times a year. 

Bio-Industrial Sector Opportunities and Challenges

The fourth Meet the Expert Series was held on May 23, 2013 to discuss renewable energy and renewable chemicals and how they continue to outperform other sectors, attracting significant global investment despite the global recession. The speakers included:

Energy Supply Chain Development

The third Meet the Expert series was held on November 29, 2012, and was focused on energy industry supply chains. The speakers included, Brian Dumsday, partner of BWDumsday & Associations Ltd., Paul Zubick of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction and Alberta Steel Manufacturers, Neil Kaarsemaker, Operations Director of the Alberta Division of CME, Colin Oddoye, Senior Manager of KPMG and Tom Mansfield of Alberta Enterprise and Advanced Education.

The second Meet the Experts series was held on June 29, 2012 and was focused on the opportunities and challenges in the oil and gas services sector. The speakers included Mike Doyle, president of the Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors (CAGC), Nancy Malone, VP Operations of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC), and Mark Salkeld, president of Petroleum Services of Canada (PSAC).

Unconventional Resources Development - Trends and Issues 

The first event took place on February 23, 2012 and was focused on the trends and issues in the unconventional resources development in the province. The speakers included Ken Chapman, Executive Director of the Oil Sands Developers Group and Mike Dawson, the President of the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources. The event was attended by around 200 Government of Alberta employees.
