Alberta Employment and Immigration

  • Alberta Aboriginal Business Service Network

    The Alberta Aboriginal Business Service Network (Alberta ABSN), an enhanced service within The Business Link, provides business information, advice and referral services to meet the needs of potential and existing Aboriginal business people in Alberta.

  • Alberta Works

    The goal of Alberta Works is to help unemployed people find and keep jobs, help low-income Albertans cover their basic costs of living, and help employers meet their need for skilled workers.

  • Business Link

    The Business Link provides business people in every part of Alberta with access to accurate, timely and relevant information and referrals, helping to reduce the complexity of dealing with various levels of government by serving as a central resource for business information.

  • Economic Immigration Program

    Designed to attract skilled human capital, business expertise and investment capital, the Economic Immigration Program enables approved applicants and their eligible dependents to obtain permanent resident status in Canada.

    Program administration is co-ordinated through the governments of Alberta and Canada. Alberta acts as a facilitator for prospective applicants and in conjunction with the federal government, provides advice and consultation to applicants.

  • Lean Manufacturing Program (Lean Enterprise) (PDF)

    Alberta manufacturers obtain competitive assessments, recommendations for operational improvement and assistance in implementing lean manufacturing practices.

  • Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)

    The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is an employer-driven immigration program operated by the Government of Alberta, in conjunction with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

    Employers unable to fill skilled positions with Canadian residents may present their business case to the AINP and apply for approval to recruit a specified number of foreign candidates to fill these positions.

  • Alberta Energy Research Institute

    Responsible for energy-related research in Alberta and promoting technology evaluation and technology transfer in areas including oil and gas, heavy oil and oil sands, coal, electricity, petrochemicals, renewable and alternative energy.

  • Innovative Energy Technologies Program

    A five-year, $200 million initiative, starting in 2005-06, encouraging the development of technology to enhance oil and gas recovery.

Alberta Innovation & Science

  • Alberta Science and Research Investment Program

    A competitive funding program that supports selected science and research initiatives of strategic importance to Alberta.

  • Innovation Program

    A three-year $33 million initiative, launched May 2004, supporting the development and implementation of initiatives within the Alberta government to improve service delivery to Albertans and adopt innovation.

  • NAIT/SAIT Microsoft Business Solutions Centre

    See media release: January 2005. The NAIT/SAIT Microsoft Business Solutions centres will help manufacturers improve operational efficiency and competitiveness.

Alberta Sustainable Resource Development

  • Upstream Oil & Gas Reclamation and Remediation Program

    The program, developed in consultation with landowners, industry and other affected stakeholders, requires all upstream oil and gas sites on private and public land to be reclaimed when a site is no longer productive. Alberta Environment is responsible for reclamation of private land and Alberta Sustainable Resource Development for public land. For more information, see:

  • Nanotechnology Institute Electron Microscope

    Announced in November 2004, the instrument enables the National Institute for Nanotechnology in Edmonton to contribute to development of improved drug therapies, diagnostic technologies and manufacturing materials and processes.
