Applicant Guide and Forms

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant involves two steps: application and completion. Before applying, be sure to download and review the Canada-Alberta Job Grant Applicant Guide.

Application: Two options. Be sure to complete the correct application for your trainee.

Receiving payment

Submit form within 30 days after all training is completed to receive grant payment.

  • Note: Employers will still have the option to receive two payment installments by contacting the CAJG team and requesting an interim reimbursement. The CAJG team can be contacted by calling 1-855-638-9424 or 780-638-9424 or by email: jobgrant@gov.ab.ca.

The following tips and checklists have been compiled by the CAJG program officers, to help you avoid processing delays.

Application form checklist for Employed Trainees

Notes:

  • CAJG will not fund training courses that start before you receive CAJG approval.
    • Apply a minimum 30 days before your program’s start date and only for courses that start within six months.
  • List each course separately on the application form using the “add training” button.
  • You may pay for the cost of training as soon as your application is signed and submitted. However, if your application is declined, you will be responsible for the training costs incurred.
  • If circumstances change after your application is submitted, notify the processing centre as soon as possible. A new application may be required which will impact your training invoice and start date.

Application Form Checklist for Employed Trainee(s)

The employer must submit the following as part of the application package. If any of these sections are not submitted, your application will not be assessed for funding.

  1. All eight (8) pages of the Application form completed and submitted with the original signature and date. The application is a legal contract, and photocopied signatures cannot be accepted. If any of these sections are not submitted, your application will not be assessed for funding.
    1. Employer is required to fill out and sign the Employer Application (Part A and B) and Grant Agreement section (Part D).
    2. Trainee is required to fill out and sign the Trainee Information (Part C).
  2. Include a quote from your training provider(s) and supporting documents that includes:
    1. Costs in Canadian dollars
    2. Date
    3. Hours of training
    4. A breakdown of training costs and travel costs (if your application meets eligibility for travel)
  3. Mail all sections of the original, completed and signed application, with supporting documentation, to the Canada-Alberta Job Grant. The application must be submitted at least 30 days before the start of training. Couriered envelopes cannot be accepted.

Application form checklist for Unemployed Trainees

Notes:

  • If circumstances change after your application is submitted, notify the processing centre as soon as possible. A new application may be required which will impact your training invoice and start date.

Application Form Checklist for Unemployed Trainee(s)

The employer must submit the following as part of the application package. If any of these sections are not submitted, your application will not be assessed for funding.

      1. Conditional Offer of Employment or Letter of Employment.
    2. Trainee is required to fill out and sign the Trainee information (Part C) and submit one one of the following:
      1. Submit Record of Employment or Itemized Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits. If unavailable, contact CAJG for further instructions.
  2. Include a quote from your training provider(s) that includes:
    1. Costs
    2. Date
    3. Hours of training
    4. A breakdown of training costs and travel costs (if your application meets eligibility for travel)
  3. Mail all sections of the original, completed and signed application, with supporting documentation, to the Canada-Alberta Job Grant. The application must be submitted at least 30 days before the start of training. Couriered envelopes cannot be accepted.

Completion form checklist

Notes:

  • Submit the Completion Form within 30 days of finishing training. After this period of time, your funding allotment may be returned to CAJG and reallocated.
  • If you have replaced trainees, you must submit trainee substitution forms. Please contact the CAJG team for instructions by calling 1-855-638-9424 or 780-638-9424 or by email: jobgrant@gov.ab.ca for the substitute trainee forms.
  • Reimbursement cannot exceed the amount of funding or number of trainees at time of approval.
  • Any receipts for training costs paid before the date the application was signed and submitted cannot be funded. Any courses started before approval cannot be funded.
  • Employers will still have the option to receive two payment installments by contacting the CAJG team and requesting an interim reimbursement. The CAJG team can be contacted by calling 1-855-638-9424 or 780-638-9424 or by email: jobgrant@gov.ab.ca.

You do not need to send certificates of completion but retain them for your records.

Completion Form Checklist:

To receive payment of eligible training and travel costs the employer must submit:

  • All pages of the completion form completed and signed within 30 days of training completion. Your signature is required in ink. A photocopied signature cannot be accepted.
  • Use assigned reference number to complete the form.
  • Include a voided business cheque in the legal name of the company.
  • Include all original, itemized expense receipts (not invoices). Receipts must include the name of the training provider, the employer, the trainee(s), the course name(s), date(s) and cost.
  • If the trainee paid for the training costs, submit documentation indicating that the employer has reimbursed the trainee for the full training amount(s). Note: Unemployed trainees are not permitted to fund their own training costs.
  • Documentation includes: payroll information and/or paystubs, expense reports, or copies of deposited cheques.
  • Mail all sections of original, signed form, receipts and payment verification to Canada-Alberta Job Grant. Couriered envelopes cannot be accepted.
