Retention via the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is designed to assist Alberta employers in attracting and retaining skilled workers. It also facilitates the process of becoming a permanent resident for workers who want to remain in Canada and have the skills the Alberta economy needs.
The AINP is a permanent resident program administered and managed by the Province of Alberta and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
The program is largely employer-driven, which means that foreign workers cannot apply directly to the program - they have to be nominated for a permanent resident status by their Alberta employer.
The Alberta employers who are unable to fill occupations with Canadian citizens or permanent residents may decide to attract and retain foreign workers by applying for the AINP. Currently, the AINP has several streams and categories:
- Skilled workers
- International graduates
- Semi-skilled workers
- Food and beverage processing industry
- Hotel and lodging industry
- Manufacturing industry
- Trucking industry
- Foodservices industry (pilot)
- Self-employed farmers
- Strategic Recruitment Stream
