Information about the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)

The AINP is an immigration program operated by the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Human Services with CIC. Individuals approved by the AINP, together with their spouse/common-law partner and dependent children, can apply for permanent residence through CIC. CIC makes final decisions on all permanent resident applications from Provincial Nominees.
 

Information about the Pilot

Why you received the letter

  • CIC, in partnership with the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), has a new initiative called the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Backlog Reduction Pilot that could help you get a permanent resident visa earlier.


  • In your Federal Skilled Worker application you indicated you
      • were interested in moving to Alberta
      • work in one of four occupations in need in Alberta:
        • NOC 0211 – Engineering Managers
        • NOC 2131 – Civil Engineers
        • NOC 2132 – Mechanical Engineers
        • NOC 0911 – Manufacturing Managers


What the letter means

  • You may apply to the AINP if you meet the AINP criteria for the pilot; there is no fee to apply to the AINP.

  • If the AINP approves your application, you and your family can apply for permanent residence through CIC as a Provincial Nominee (PN). This will be a new application for permanent residence and you will have to pay the CIC processing fees to apply as a PN. Once CIC accepts your new application for permanent residence as a PN, they will then close your previous FSW application and refund your fees from your FSW application.

  • Your AINP application must arrive at the AINP no later than June 1, 2012. You will be contacted by the AINP with a final decision on your application no later than October 31, 2012.

  • When the FSW Backlog Reduction Pilot was launched by AINP and CIC, you were told that if you chose not to apply to the AINP or were not nominated by the AINP under the FSW Backlog Reduction Pilot, that your application would remain in the FSW backlog queue until it came up for processing.

  • After the launch of this pilot, the Government of Canada announced plans under the Economic Action Plan 2012 to eliminate most applications in the FSW backlog received prior to February 27, 2008. If these plans are approved, applicants may have their original or previous FSW application closed and fees returned. 

  • This change means that if you do not apply to the AINP under the FSW Backlog Reduction Pilot, it is possible that your application may not remain in the FSW backlog queue.


What the letter does not mean

  • The AINP will be accepting a limited number of complete applications under this Pilot. The AINP does not guarantee that all complete applications received by the AINP will be assessed or that all applicants who meet the AINP Pilot criteria will be issued a nomination. The AINP will provide a written response by email to all individuals who apply. Submission of an AINP application or nomination by the AINP does not guarantee you will be issued a permanent resident visa.

  • The letter invites you (including your spouse/common-law partner and dependent children) to apply to the AINP. This Pilot is only available to those who are invited directly by CIC.

  • The letter does not mean you have already applied to the AINP. CIC has not given the AINP a copy of your FSW application. If you choose to participate in the Pilot, you must submit an AINP application in order to be considered for Nomination.

  • This letter does not guarantee that CIC will issue you a permanent resident visa.

 

If you did not receive an invitation letter

  • Only some individuals were chosen by CIC to receive an invitation letter for this pilot.

  • Individuals chosen to receive an invitation letter were those who identified Alberta in their original FSW application as the place they would like to live in Canada, and who were working in the four occupations/NOC codes listed above.

  • If you did not receive an invitation letter to this pilot from CIC, you are not eligible for the pilot.

  • If you apply to the AINP without a copy of your invitation letter for the pilot, your application will be declined.


Pilot Criteria

Criteria you must meet in order to be eligible for the AINP

At the time of application to the AINP, you the Candidate must:

  • Intend to and be able to live and work in Alberta
  • Be between the ages of 24 and 55
  • Meet the following education criteria:
      • You have completed a post-secondary diploma or degree program at least two (2) years in duration at an accredited educational institution, in a field of study directly related to your current employment and work experience:
          • If you are working as a NOC 0211 – Engineering Manager, NOC 2131 – Civil Engineer or NOC  2131 – Mechanical Engineer, a related field of study includes an engineering technology diploma or degree, and

        • You currently meet and/or met the licensing or registration requirements to perform the job duties of your current and previous jobs in the country in which you were performing those job duties (if applicable)
    OR

     

    • Be currently performing the job duties of one of the four NOC codes listed below and have a minimum of three (3) years paid, full-time work experience performing duties in this occupation since January 1, 2007
          • NOC 0211 – Engineering Managers
          • NOC 2131 – Civil Engineers
          • NOC 2132 – Mechanical Engineers
          • NOC 0911 – Manufacturing Managers
     
    OR
    • Have accessible funds in a bank or financial institution of:

        • At least CAD $10,000 for the Candidate, and 

        • CAD $2,000 for each of the Candidate’s dependants (spouse or common-law partner and child)

        • Joint accounts with your Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) in which you are clearly identified as one of the account holders are acceptable.


    Meeting these criteria does not guarantee your application will be assessed, or that you will be issued a Nomination letter or a permanent resident visa.

     

    How to apply to the AINP

    1. Prepare your AINP application. Applications must be received at AINP on or before June 1, 2012. Applications received at the AINP June 2, 2012 or later will not be processed and will be returned to the sender.


    2. Download the AINP - Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Backlog Reduction Pilot –Document Checklist (PDF) which lists all forms and supporting documents required to apply to the AINP.

    • You must include the AINP Document Checklist with your application.


    3. Download and complete all of the forms on the AINP Document Checklist. 

    • Download our Helpful hints (PDF) to assist you in filling out the application forms.

    • You will need at least Adobe Reader 8.1 to fill out the application forms. If you do not have Adobe Reader 8.1, click on the icon below to download the program for free. 



    • You must fill out several CIC forms in order to apply to the AINP. You must complete the current version of the CIC forms provided on the AINP Document Checklist. All information on the forms must be current to the date of AINP application submission.


    4. Complete all forms and all supporting documents.

    • Place the documents in the same order as the AINP Document Checklist.

    • Only complete applications will be accepted. Incomplete applications will not be processed.


    5. Mail your complete application to:

    • The AINP does not accept applications by fax or online.

    • We suggest you send your application package by registered mail or courier service to enable tracking of the package and to be able to confirm receipt of the package at our office.

    • The AINP will notify you of your file number by email when your application has been received. This may take up to 30 days.


    6. Your AINP application must be received no later than June 1, 2012. Applications received at the AINP office on or after June 2, 2012 will not be processed and will be returned to sender.


    7. While you wait for your decision, you must keep the AINP updated on changes to your family status and changes to your contact information.

    • If you have a change in address, email or phone number download the AINP Change of Address and Contact Information form and fax to the AINP at (780) 427-6560.

    • If you have a change in family status download the AINP Request to Add/Remove Family Member(s) form and fax to the AINP at (780) 427-6560.

    • If you have any additional information to provide after you have submitted your application, you can either mail these documents to the address above (in step 5) or fax the information to AINP at (780) 427-6560. Make sure you quote your file number.


    8. You will be contacted by the AINP with a final decision on your application no later than October 31, 2012.

    • The AINP will send your final decision by email. It is important that you complete your email accurately on the AINP form. Ensure that you check all your email folders often for a response from the AINP.

    • If your AINP application is approved, the AINP will send you a Nomination by email. You then submit a new Application for Permanent Residence in Canada to CIC as Provincial Nominee. Instructions on how to apply will be included with your Nomination.

    • If you are nominated, your nomination will be valid for 6 months. You have 6 months to submit your Application for Permanent Residence in Canada to CIC. The AINP will not be granting extensions to nominations under this pilot.
