Cost of living
Alberta offers many cost-of-living advantages compared to the average cost of living in Canada. Albertans pay low personal income taxes, with the lowest top marginal income tax rate and the highest basic and spousal amounts in Canada. We are also the only province with no provincial sales tax.
Albertans enjoy a publicly funded health care system that guarantees universal access to necessary hospital and medical services. Albertans also benefit from the lowest tax on gasoline among provinces and among the lowest property taxes in Canada.
Residents of small communities enjoy all the modern amenities and an even lower cost-of-living based on reduced housing prices, shorter commute times and affordable consumer goods, which all contribute to a cost of living advantage.
The 2007 Alberta Spatial Price Study (pdf) and the 2005 Place-to-Place Price Comparison Survey (pdf) will help you compare prices among Alberta communities.
