Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)

Family stream - candidate eligibility

An application under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) Family Stream requires both an Alberta Relative and a Candidate. The following criteria must be met for the Candidate to be considered for a nomination to become a permanent resident under this stream.

Criteria for Candidates (includes but is not limited to):

  • The Candidate must have an eligible Alberta Relative.
     
  • The Candidate must complete an AINP Family Stream – Application for Nomination (AINP 006B) form.
     
  • The Candidate must be able to provide proof that he or she is the parent, child, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew of the Alberta Relative (by birth or adoption).

    Please note that Candidates who are currently in Canada and have been identified by Citizenship and Immigration Canada as one of the following are not eligible to apply under the Family Stream:
     
    • live-in caregivers
    • refugee claimants
       
  • The Candidate and their Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) must be between the ages of 21 and 45.
     
  • The Candidate and their Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) must have obtained an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum score of 4.0, or a minimum level of 3.0 (361-540) on the Test d’evaluation de français (TEF).
     
    • If the Candidate and their Spouse/Common-law partner’s (if applicable) primary language of use (the language most commonly used in your household) is English or French, an IELTS or TEF is not required with the application.
       
      • If you and your Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) reside in one of the countries on the attached list, you may be considered exempt from the need to demonstrate language ability.
         
    • If the Candidate and their Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) completed a minimum of a baccalaureate (bachelor’s degree) in English or French, an IELTS or TEF is not required with the application.
       
      • If you and your Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) completed a minimum of a baccalaureate (bachelor’s degree) at one of the institutions on the attached list, you may be considered exempt from the need to demonstrate language ability.
         
    • The AINP reserves the right to require that the Candidate and their Spouse/Common-law partner complete an IELTS or TEF assessment.
       
  • The Candidate or their Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) must meet minimum criteria for education and work experience. Note that one individual (either Candidate or spouse/common-law partner) must meet both the education and work experience criteria.
     
    • The Candidate or their Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) must be able to demonstrate completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree program of at least two (2) years in duration.
       
    • The Candidate or their Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) must be able to demonstrate one of the following:
       
      • a minimum of three years of full-time work experience that is related to individual’s post-secondary credential within the past four years
      • a minimum of three years of full-time post-secondary school within the past four years
      • a combination of three years of full-time work experience and full-time post-secondary school within the past four years. The education and experience must be related (i.e. an Engineering degree and working as an Engineer).
         
  • The Candidate or their Spouse/Common-law partner (if applicable) must be able to demonstrate that they have the following accessible funds in a financial institution:
     
    • at least CAD $10,000 for the Candidate
    • CAD $2,000 for each of the Candidate’s dependents (spouse or common-law partner and children)
