Sponsoring your family

If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident you can sponsor a family member to become a permanent resident. The process begins when you, as a citizen or permanent resident, apply to be a sponsor.

To sponsor a family member, you must agree to provide financial support for your family member.

Basic requirements include:

• Food.
• Clothing.
• Shelter.
• Dental and eye care.
• Other services not covered by public healthcare coverage.

Your obligations as a sponsor begin when the family member arrives in Canada.
