Getting involved

Democracy: you make the difference

When you become a citizen of Canada, you earn the right to vote in federal, provincial and municipal elections. Take a look at the federal government parties and the Alberta government parties. Information on municipal candidates is found on the websites of each city and town.

Ways to make a difference:

1. Vote. Federal and provincial elections are called at least every five years. These elections have no fixed date and depend on the current state of the government in power. Municipal elections are held every three years on the third Monday in October.

2. Become a party member. As a member, you have the opportunity to become more involved in the policies that guide your party. You will be presented with many volunteer opportunities and can also join in party rallies or other political gatherings.

3. Run for elected office. All citizens are eligible to run for municipal, provincial and federal office. Most candidates associate themselves with a political party, but you also have the option of forming a new party or running as an independent candidate.
