Deportation
Canada reserves the right to deport foreigners, including those who are long-time residents.
You may be deported from Canada if you:
- were convicted of a criminal offense before immigrating to Canada
- are convicted of a serious crime in Canada that results in a prison sentence of more than six months or could have resulted in a sentence of five years or more
- entered Canada illegally either by lying or using false documents
You may have the right to appeal a decision that could result in deportation.
You can get information about immigration laws directly from the Citizenship and Immigration Canada Call Centre (1-888-242-2100 toll-free) or consult a lawyer who specializes in immigration law.
