Architecture, Engineering & Construction
Designing Our Future!
Alberta's architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) firms make a significant contribution to Alberta's economy, accounting for approximately 7.5% of the province's gross domestic product (GDP).
Dedication in developing and applying technology and project management skills enhances each undertaking and promotes a well-known standard of distinction. Building on a long-established excellence in civil, structural, municipal and environmental disciplines, Alberta's AEC firms are skilled in the designing and constructing of major projects.
A Growing, Knowledge-Based Sector
Alberta's architecture, engineering and construction sector comprises over 25,000 businesses that together generate annual revenues of more than CDN$42 billion. Significant industrial benefits result from the sector because of the equipment, materials and subcontract services its firms design, specify and procure. The industry continues to grow because of its participation in Alberta's strong infrastructure and resource development activity.
AEC is a knowledge-based sector. The more than 250,000 Albertans employed in this sector have succeeded in developing diverse and strong world-class skills. Indirect and induced employment is approximately equal to direct employment.
