In 2009, Mexico continued to be Alberta's fourth largest export market. Mexico and Alberta share a healthy trading relationship, with approximately $1.5 billion (CAD) in bilateral trade in 2009. Alberta exported about close to a billion dollars to Mexico in 2009.
In fact, Alberta's exports to Mexico have grown almost 1200% since 1993, the year before implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Alberta now represents just under 25% of Canada's total exports to Mexico and nearly 60% of Western Canada's exports to Mexico.
The Alberta Mexico Office was founded in 2002 to stimulate economic development, trade, and investment between the Province of Alberta and Mexico.
