Recruiting temporary foreign workers

After you’ve explored opportunities for hiring in Canada and determined that Albertans and Canadians cannot meet your organization’s labour requirements, you may consider recruiting Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs).

Hiring Temporary Foreign Workers lets Canadian employers hire foreign workers on a temporary basis to meet immediate skills and labour challenges when Canadians and permanent residents are not available.

To hire a TFW, you will need to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and demonstrate that you have made reasonable efforts to recruit within Canada.

Hiring and Retaining Foreign Workers (PDF) is a comprehensive guide that includes information on:

  • hiring, retaining and settlement of TFWs
  • using recruitment agencies and immigration consultants
