How to Apply to the Strategic Recruitment Stream

Note:
For Compulsory and Optional Trades Category applicants, before you apply to the AINP you must obtain your Alberta Qualification Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) or have an AIT Recognized Trade Certificate in a compulsory or optional trade in Alberta. Visit the AIT website for information about obtaining an Alberta Qualification Certificate and information on Recognized Trade Certificates.

  1. You must review the criteria for the category you are applying to.

If you do not meet the criteria your application will be declined.

  2. Put your application together.

Make sure that you complete the application form and include all supporting documents for the category you are applying to.

Also review the Important information about applying to the AINP section on the Application forms page for tips on how to prepare your application.

  3. Send your complete application to the AINP.

Make sure you complete the required forms and include all required documents. Incomplete applications will not be processed, and will be returned. A complete application is an application that includes all of the required documents listed on the document checklist.

When you mail your application, you must clearly indicate which category you are applying to. Complete applications can be mailed to:

  4. The AINP will assess your application.

Review the AINP processing and inventory page for the most current information about application processing and status.

  5. If your AINP application is approved, you will become a Provincial Nominee.

You will get a nomination package in the mail. Make sure you read all documents in the package. The information in the package will tell you and your dependants how to apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

  6. Submit your Application for Permanent Residence to IRCC along with supporting documents.

Visit the After you're nominated section of the website for more information.

  7. IRCC will conduct health, criminality and security checks. If you and your dependants meet all required checks, IRCC would then issue the permanent resident visa(s) for immigration to Alberta.

Note: Review AINP terms and conditions before applying.
